Classic Spaghetti and Meatballs
A comforting, timeless classic. This recipe features juicy, homemade beef meatballs browned to perfection and then simmered in a rich, savory tomato sauce served over spaghetti.
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- 1/2 lb (225g) ground beef
- 1/2 cup (60g) breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the Spaghetti & Sauce:
- 4 oz (115g) spaghetti
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 can (7 oz / 200g) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients except the olive oil. Mix well and form into 6-8 meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs for 2-3 minutes per side.
- Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through. To check, one should no longer be pink inside, or a thermometer should read 160°F (70°C).
- While the meatballs are baking, cook the spaghetti according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a separate skillet, make the sauce. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium heat, sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, then add the crushed tomatoes, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
- Combine the sauce with the spaghetti and serve topped with the baked meatballs.
Enjoy!
