Perfect Pan-Seared Steak with Mashed Potatoes
Learn how to cook a flawless steakhouse-quality steak at home, pan-seared in butter for a perfect crust, and served with a side of creamy, homemade mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
For the Steak:
- 1 large beef steak (about 1 inch / 2.5cm thick)
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper
For the Mashed Potatoes:
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil the diced potatoes in a pot of salted water until soft and easily pierced with a fork.
- Drain the potatoes well and mash them. Add the milk, butter, salt, and pepper, and continue mashing until smooth and creamy. Keep warm.
- Season the steak generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- In a large pan over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Add the steak to the hot pan and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness is reached.
- Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving with the mashed potatoes.
