Easy Homemade Sushi for Bento Boxes
A step-by-step guide to making classic maki-sushi at home. This recipe shows you how to prepare and roll your favorite fillings for a perfect bento box lunch.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (200g) sushi rice
- Nori seaweed sheets
- Assorted sushi fillings (cucumber, avocado, smoked salmon, cooked shrimp, etc.)
- Soy sauce, for dipping
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Cook sushi rice according to package instructions and let it cool.
- While the rice cooks, prepare your fillings by slicing them into thin strips.
- Lay a sheet of nori on a sushi mat. Moisten your hands with water and spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a border at the top.
- Arrange your desired fillings in a line along the bottom edge of the rice.
- Tightly roll the nori sheet up, using the mat to help you form a tight cylinder. Moisten the top border with water to seal.
- Using a sharp, wet knife, slice the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces.
