Hearty Beef and Bean Chili
A classic, hearty chili that's perfect for a cozy night in. This recipe features ground beef and kidney beans simmered in a savory, spiced tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz / 400g) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (14 oz / 400g) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook, breaking it apart, until it's browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the chili powder and cumin and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the diced tomatoes (with their juice) and the drained kidney beans. Stir well.
- Season with salt and pepper. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the chili simmer for at least 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
